Ok it’s been quite a hiatus for me. But I’m back and blogging again.
After constant computer battles and then getting a new one only to have it fall over a couple of times I got heaps behind in processing shoots. So this weekend I decided it’s time.
Time to get blogging.
Time to show some of the fabulous people I’ve been photographing.
Time to enable people to see their pics online as quickly as I take them.
Time to not let busyness overule fun.
So first up a quick promo for my church’s SuperStar 2009 event – where the Kid’s Church young people practice and practice and practice just to show that Aussie Young People have talent.
The photo’s are from last years event but put in a short promo video. And a tip – if you, like me, detest videos stop start stop start process, then just after you click go pause it and let it continue to download first before hitting play again. that way you get to see it in one hit This promo is 1 1/2 minutes long.
catch you later.

You have just gotta laugh.
So this wedding was outside on the lush and very soft lawns of Joondalup Country Club Resort. Surrounded by bush. My erstwile assistant – who doubles for my daughter – was sinking into the turf with high heels. She takes them off during the ceremony and grabs a camera for a few shots.
Suddenly, out the corner of her eye she notices a wandering little page boy. He picks up the shoes, thinks about it, and tears off as fast as his little legs can take him. He’s off to daddy to show his trophies – Mummy was the Maid of Honour. Clearly he thought that with Christmas around the corner here was a way to get into mum’s good books!!!!!

So while the big Geelong Vs Hawthorn footy match was on today [See my earlier post] I spent time watching the game while editing photos. Editing was slow because the game was so riveting.
Eventually I stopped editing and grabbed 3 pics from last weeks Romance Shoot with Kristy and Joe. These were in front of a fabulous display of native everlasting flowers in Kings Park. Flowers looked awesome but I wanted to put the pics into timeless old chocolate sepia toning. Here’s the result.

For all you expat Aussies who regularly drop in on this blog today was the BIG one at the MCG – with just over 100,000 there to see the hot favourites and last years premiers GEELONG take on the second best team for this year HAWTHORN. The game was as tough as you get.
Well I can say it was one of the fabulous grand finals. And Hawthorn took the honours – winning by 26 points. My team, sadly, was not among the contestants. So I was sort of neutral, except that the Hawks Shane Crawford, after 305 games over 17 years had never played in a grand final. So I sort of had a leaning toward them,… though I wasn’t overly passionate other than absolutely loving the game. You can see all the info and action at AFL.com.au

Felicity and Brant had a photo booth at their reception. These can be heaps of fun if the guests are right into the celebrations of the occasion – and they were. If you were there or are friends of Felicity & Brant you can see them all by clicking Akesson Photo Gallery and using Felicity’s surname [before she was married] as the password.
Just a couple of the proofs for now.
If you want to see more click on the “more” or go to the gallery link

With emotions mixed with sadness and anticipation Seth and Karen have taken a leave of absence for a couple of years and flown the coop to San Diego.
But last Saturday we had the opportunity to take some final pics of them and their growing son. This has been a brilliant project and now I’ll develop a coffee table book for them. We’ve had a couple of shoots while Karen took 9 months to cook a bub, some newborn photos with doting parents, more pics of amazing changes that seemingly take place week by week, and finally another shoot that concentrated on the happy parents themselves.
So here’s a couple Boaz. And yes there is similarity between them. First one was by Nils from Fig Tree Photography came along to this shoot and captured a look that is just like his father! From then on we concentrated on Seth and Karen.
They’ll be missed at Hepburn Heights,… but the time with Seth’s family in USA and the life adventure will be memories and experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their life.

My son-in-law went off to Monte Bello Islands fishing with his dad last week. Don’t know what dad caught but the pic below shows MY son-in-law with his fabulous catch of around 25kg – and there weren’t any fish shops around to fake it. Not bad eh! He loves his fishing. So I just had to show it. And just for good measure, just remember that he’s about 6foot6inches or thereabouts so that fish ain’t small:-)
For the uninitiated the Montebello’s are about1,500kms north of Perth – off Onslow where the coastal bump in Australia’s shoreline has turned northeast. In the 1950’s some atomic testing took place there. Have a look at a map. That coast area is renowned for great fishing up there if you are good enough. Well this fish is “GT” or Giant Trevally as Ryan tells me.
For those of you who saw this post earlier, you will notice some corrections – it wasn’t off Exmouth they went – but north of Onslow. Anyway we have enjoyed some of the fish – thanks Ryan.

Wedding photography is a team game,… a two way street .
It’s not only the photographer’s perceptions and influence but it’s also the expectations and participation of the various people involved. Since doing some second shooting at weddings [where I assist the contracted photographer – Chris Brown ] I’ve spent some time contemplating / analysing / reflecting on my experiences when it comes to shooting the guys in all the weddings I’ve shot.
Hmmm! Often it’s been less than relaxed. Chaotic even. More intent at burning off the nervous energy than getting ready for pics. At the same time you have this photographer who can make the mistake of assuming they would keen to get their faces into a digital image.
What’s the answer? Clarity in pre-planning with the groom and communicating that first up with all the guys. A bunch of guys on a wedding will, if there is no direction, go in all directions at a whim. It’s a team thing. At this wedding I talked to each of the guys as I took their individual photos first up. Told them what the pics were going to be used for.
So guys, this is what I had in mind with those first pics – simple portraits with a purpose. Sure we took heaps more pics of you during the day. But you got into game right from the start. It’s not just about the glamorous girls 🙂 mostly but not all.

Sean was just a tad nervous. We used all the blues of the room and furniture as a calming effect for a pic full of smiles that actually camouflage the reality of inner butterflies. We guys don’t like to admit such a thing though!
