hey if you want to see a few more of the Seth and Karen shoot check out Nil’s site at Fig Tree Photography.  She’s got up one of my absolute favourites from the shoot – of Seth and Karen enjoying themselves.  for the technically minded Nils was using her fabulous Canon 50mm f1.4 lens.  The light was coming from behind them so I had the job of filling in the light with my 180×90cm oval reflector.

And this is my first ever post without a photo.

Karen in Blue Tones

I like toning photos. Doesn’t mean I don’t love colour,… just that sometimes colour can work against the subject being portrayed.

So tonight, while downloading a pile of pics taken earlier today on a work Insights Discovery Seminar, I grabbed another of Karen and gave it the works in blue tonings.

Now if Seth doesn’t love this one then he’s been overtaken by a serious brain-befuddling illness. and just to show that I am not biased, below that is the two of them together – in rich colour.

Backup Your Photos BEFORE the Computer Crashes!

For years I have been excruciatingly particular about backing up my photos – especially wedding pics. But I never really believed it would happen to me.  Have had a couple of hard disks come to grief,… but they gave indications and so I changed them.

Well it has happened. Very little indication of anything wrong.  So for the last 10 days I have been without my main computer.  BUT.  I never lost any photos.  And the wedding pics I am about to drop into their respective proof books are all safe. Sure I haven’t been able to work on them for nearly two weeks.  But critical backups have meant that no photos have been lost and no work completed has been wasted.

For all those who view this,…. PLEASE,…. even if it is “just” family snapshots do regular backups.  Put them onto dvd’s.  Get a second hard disk in your computer and back up to that.  Better still get two extra hard disks and use one for your photos and one for the backups of your photos.  Computers do crash and hard disks do die – both noisily and silently.

Nonetheless I have a second computer that is a bit slower.  So from Saturday week ago here are a few more of Seth and Karen just before they left for the USofA.

Bon Voyage Photos

With emotions mixed with sadness and anticipation Seth and Karen have taken a leave of absence for a couple of years and flown the coop to San Diego.

But last Saturday we had the opportunity to take some final pics of them and their growing son.  This has been a brilliant project and now I’ll develop a coffee table book for them.  We’ve had a couple of shoots while Karen took 9 months to cook a bub, some newborn photos with doting parents, more pics of amazing changes that seemingly take place week by week, and finally another shoot that concentrated on the happy parents themselves.

So here’s a couple Boaz. And yes there is similarity between them.  First one was by Nils from Fig Tree Photography came along to this shoot and captured a look that is just like his father! From then on we concentrated on Seth and Karen.

They’ll be missed at Hepburn Heights,… but the time with Seth’s family in USA and the life adventure will be memories and experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their life.

The Retro Bride Photo?

A blast from the past?  No not really.  Entirely a coincidental pic of a bride receiving a phone call from her almost groom.  But you know in my own wedding album is a photo of Heather all dolled up in her wedding dress with phone in hand.  Thing is I didn’t ring her at that point.  It was the traditional photo of the day.

Well in this pic Felicity had just finished getting her hair done and I was taking a few pics of her prior to heading away from the “make-over pit”!  And her man just wanted to hear her voice.  It was terrific.  So we kept taking pics to record it.

Bride’s Mounting Anticipation

Today I’ve been pulling all Melissa’s wedding proof images together for sending off to get printed into a proof book. As usual one caught my eye to pull into photoshop. This one was shot a few moments before the “bird cage” veil was added. So I processed it with an old type of sepia and pushed the out the exposure for a partial hi-key shot that emphasised her smile.

I like the result.
